About St. John’s Chesterfield

About the UCC

Welcome to the United Church of Christ  – a community of faith that works to respond to the Gospel of Jesus Christ in word and deed. The UCC was founded in 1957 as the union of several different Christian traditions. Our motto “that they may all be one” is Jesus’ prayer for the unity of the church.

The UCC is one of the most diverse Christian churches in the United States, a progressive denomination that engages heart and mind. While preserving the relevant portions of heritage of history dating back to the Pilgrims of the 16th century, the UCC has proven itself capable of moving forward, tying faith to social justice and shaping its theology and service in an every-changing world. You can find a lot more information about the UCC on the national website.  Our motto at St John’s United Church of Christ – “Wherever you are on life’s journey – you are welcome here! And we mean it!

About St. John's Chesterfield

St. John's United Church of Christ was founded in 1892 as the Bellefontaine German Evangelical Church, serving the small farming community of Chesterfield, Missouri. In the interceding decades, the German Evangelical Church merged with the Reformed church to become the Evangelical and Reformed Church, which subsequently merged with Congregational Christian Church in 1957 to form the United Church of Christ. That’s a lot of merging!

Just like the UCC, the community of Chesterfield has transformed over the years, from a quiet farming community to a bustling St. Louis County suburban community. St. John's is currently blessed with many families who are actively involved in the ministry and events related to the church, our greater St Louis communities and world missions. Our modern facilities include a beautiful sanctuary that seats over 350 people, a large fellowship hall, gymnasium, several meeting and conference rooms, and numerous classrooms to accomodates our Sunday School and Pre-School activities. In fact, many of our facilities are available for rent; contact thechurch office if you are interested in renting the gym, meeting rooms, fellowship hall, etc.

St. John's offers a wide variety of programs for adults and children alike. On Sunday nights, NO LIMITS our youth group for middle school and senior high school students, meets for an evening of fellowship, spirituality, and fun. During the week, there are many other on-going activities, small group sessions, and the Wednesday afternoons and supper features our LOGOS program, for children preschool through highschool (and lots of adult volunteers also)

Adult opportunities also abound at St. John's. Besides the regular Sunday morning Adult Bible Study, there are small group bible studies, regular fellowship activities, sport teams, many community activities (e.g. Habitat for Humanity, Circle of Concern). Additionally, music plays an important role in the life of St. John's. Members may elect to choose from a large variety of musical interests. The list goes on and on.
